Rating: ****

If there is  a market for robotic spouses after this  film, then Kriti Sanon is to be credited for it. She makes a  very sexy robot, and no wonder Shahid Kapoor falls head over heels.

There is  something  magical about a cute rom-com creeping up on  the  boxoffice  and  claiming it as its own.It has happened in the past, when Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota  Hai and Anees Bazmee’s  Pyar Toh Hona Hi Tha(why doesn’t Anees make more romantic film?) became the surprise  successes of the year.

Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya has  the longest most intriguing  title one has heard in recent times. It also gives us the never-before  pair of  Kriti Sanon and Shahid Kapoor who look lethally likeable together. This is the  film’s  biggest  USP .

The basic premise of an eligible bachelor  (who has nightmares  of  his  large joint-family forcing him  to marry  a girl of their choice) falling in love with a robot is  novel enticing  and  intriguing  for  Hindi moviewatchers. The last time we saw  an Indian actor play a robot  it  was Rajinikanth  as Chitthi in Shankar’s Robot.

Kriti Sanon’s  SIFRA (Super Intelligent Female Robot Automation) is ….errr…somewhat  different  from Rajinikanth’s Chitthi. For starters she is sassier.  She answers back beyond her robotic comportment when pushed to the wall by Shahid’s pushy family(reminiscent  of Luv Ranjan’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar where at  least on family member Boney  Kapoor kept quiet). . And when SIFRA laughs  at  a joke,  you know she is  faking it.

Luckily  for the film there are plenty of genuinely funny and heartwarming moments, though I  wish Aryan(Arru)’s  family was  not so  annoying. No wonder Dimple Kapadia who plays his aunt stays   out of  the  ongoing celebratory mood in the family, preferring to  make robots instead  of small talk.

For this Valentinian love story(echoing the Joaquin Phoenix 2013 starrer Her) to make a  tidy profit won’t be difficult. Controlled budgets, tight  work schedules  and affordable locations…these make Dinesh Vijan’s films a  treat …for the producer and the audience.Teri Baaton Mein… is  no exception.
